PHOENIX (March 21, 2019) – Desert Financial Credit Union, Arizona’s largest credit union, this week hosted its annual Desert Financial Foundation Charity Golf Tournament, raising $460,000 to benefit “1 Darn Cool School” at Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH). The tournament was held at Encanterra Country Club in San Tan Valley, and attended by nearly 200 supporters from around the Valley.


Desert Financial’s annual tournament benefits PCH through the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH), an international non-profit organization operating for the sole purpose of providing funds for children's hospitals, medical research and fostering community awareness of children's health issues.

Eric Ash (Phoenix, AZ) shot a final-round 69 and made par on the first playoff hole to beat Steven Allan (Phoenix, AZ) in the second annual Desert Financial Credit Union Scottsdale AZ Open, Presented by United Rentals at Talking Stick Golf Club. 

Ash held a share of the second-round lead at 8-under with Daniel Miernicki (Santee, CA) but got off to a slow start in the final round, shooting even par through the first nine holes to stay at 8-under as he made the turn.  Miernicki got to 10-under par for the tournament after making par on the holes 2 and 8, but dropped back into a tie with Ash after a costly double-bogey on the 446-yard par-4 ninth hole. 

Allan started the day three shots back at 5-under but got into the mix early, carding birdies on three of the first five holes to get to 8-under.  His hot streak stopped on the par-4 ninth where he made a bogey that dropped him one back of the leaders at 7-under par with nine holes to play.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Tournament Director Brian Vranesh announced today the renewed partnership with United Rentals as the Presenting Sponsor of the Desert Financial Credit Union Scottsdale AZ Open, which will be played May 21-24 at Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale. 

The tournament was a major success when hit the Valley of the Sun last year – in large part because of the attractive guaranteed $125,000 purse and affordable entry fees.  The event attracted more than 140 touring professionals from all over the country.  Joel Dahmen, PGA TOUR member for the 2017–18 season, won the inaugural tournament in 2017 by two shots over Douglas Quinones and Riley Arp.

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Tournament Director Brian Vranesh announced today that title sponsor Desert Financial Credit Union (formerly Desert Schools Federal Credit Union) has signed a new two-year agreement to be title sponsor for the Scottsdale AZ Open, which will be played May 21-24 at Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale.

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Joel Dahmen (Scottsdale, AZ) fired a final-round 2-under 68 and held off rallies from a strong field to win the first ever Desert Schools Federal Credit Union Scottsdale AZ Open championship by two shots.

Dahmen opened the tournament with a 2-under 68 at Talking Stick Golf Club’s North Course, and followed that up with an impressive bogey-free 64 to get to 8-under par and a three-shot lead heading into Thursday’s final round. Riley Arp (Fort Collins, CO), Ryan Williams (Phoenix, AZ), Matt Hansen (Los Osos, CA) and Brian Prouty (Tucson, AZ) sat at 5-under through two rounds, while Chris Evans (Bermuda Dunes, CA) was four shots back at 4-under heading into the final day.

Dahmen played steady on the front nine, carding birdies on the par-4 fourth hole and the par-4 fifth to get to 10-under for the tournament.
